This Osage Self Bow was made at the ROOTS school in Vermont. The instructors guided us through a 4-day course which included some very late nights making bows.
The bow was sized for each person’s draw. Once length was established the stave was brought down to a single growth ring. From there the bow was laid out and cut some on the bandsaw. Then the rasping began. …. and lasted for 3 whole days. In the end, this sweat bow was finished and we were on to flint knapping and arrow making.
