There is no greater honor than making an Urn for a great person. I have been able to honor a few fallen friends by creating these boxes for them. I try to do as much hand work as possible on these. I also try to use high-character woods. Sometimes, as shown here, the family will supply an item to enlay on the box. These are a great alternative to the slew of mass-produced items on the market today.
I have made several of these display cases with various specifications. They all have dovetail corners. The new one’s all have through-tenon doors which can be disassembled if the glass is broken. These cases can be customized in many ways. Most of the cases I have made are used to display train models. For these track grooves are cut into the shelving to keep the display pieces secure and in-line.
The laser is a great templating tool for signage. On the Harley-Davidson dealership pictures below, paper templates were made for all of the signage on the building front. From these guides the hand-painted facad was finished. For Ryan’s Room and Emily’s Closet, the laser was used to cut out the individual letters from SF3 sign foam. These were then finished in gold automotive paint.
